Indian festive wear is really our time to shine. We can get away with wearing the heavy embroidery or applique work and it will be as appropriate. Indian festive occasions are the time when we can wear everything that may be too much for our daily wardrobe. Let’s see what trends are huge this year for the festive wear.
Colour: Red, Pastels, Gold
Indian festive wear is rarely drab. We love to flaunt our colours in every shade imaginable. And while there is a rainbow to watch out for during the festive times, here are a few colours we saw trending huge on the ramp.
Red Red
The colour red has been trending all round the world. A beautiful coral red has been seen at quite a few shows among other stunning shades of red. Aptly so, the colour looks amazing on Indian skin.
Pretty Pastels
If you are one to shy from bold hues, go for a subdued yet stunning pastel shade. How pretty are these?
Pot of gold
We Indians can never really part with gold. Including the colour.
Fabrics: Velvet, Silk
Move over cotton. Explore the rich vastness of the Indian textile with these alluring, beautiful fabrics.
Velvet
A fabric that instantly awakens the luxury feel, velvet is an important part of our festive wear. You can never go wrong with a beautiful velvet festive look.
Work: Embroidery, Sequins
Plain jane looks are rarely popular in the festive wear. Enjoy the all-out heavy work on your festive ensembles!
Heavy embroidery & sparkle
Star Looks
While all the looks were beautiful, here are 3 stunning looks that stood out for me.
Gold, saree, jacket
A beautiful, delicate pale gold saree mixed with rose gold and yellow gold jacket. The intricate work on the jacket balances the simple richness of the saree.
Velvet, work, jewel tone
A piece of royalty in a blue velvet gown with stunning applique work, this beautiful creation is perfect for the millennial woman who wants to mix traditional elements with something modern.
White, collar blouse, saree, jacket, belt, converse shoes
Who says sarees have to be too festive? This beautiful mix of prints on a white canvas topped with a jacket is a perfect look in itself. Definitely loving the touch of edge with the white shoes!
My take on the ethnic trends:
Ethnic outfits are the most extravagant and also heavy on the budget and with the trends going on and off every year, it is best to rent out outfits for those special occasions. Also all fashionistas would hate to repeat the same outfit which you have been photographed in at one ocassion. I personally prefer going to The Clothing Rental and renting different outfits for different occasions.
I genuinely believe that instead of owning super fancy gowns and ethnic outfits, it is much more budget friendly to rent an outfit. There is a wide variety of styles present at The Clothing Rental website to choose from like saree, lehenga choli, kurta sets as well as indo western gowns. I selected three outfits from The Clothing Rental to create 3 different looks for this festive season. The outfits are in the trending colours of the season – pastel grey, gold and red. So go ahead and enjoy the lookbook:
1:
Pastel Grey
The 1st outfit I chose is a beautiful pastel grey 2 piece outfit. The bottoms are dhoti pants. I feel that dhoti pants are extremely versatile and allow you to move freely. Plus, it is a modern twist on a traditional clothing item. The top has frill detailing around the waist and the sleeves. The neckline is adorned with gold sequins. I wore mint pumps with this outfit and added a white choker for accessories.
2.
Gold
My 2nd outfit had to be gold! This is a gold floor length gown. The waist is accentuated with a stitched embroidered belt on it. The gown also has a plain gold dupatta on one side. I added oversized gold hoop earrings topped with diamonds as the gown has a round neckline. This outfit is just perfect for any festive occasion you have to attend.
3.
Red
What is ethnic wear without the colour red? For the 3rd outfit, I chose this pre-stitched saree gown. I feel this is a perfect choice for the modern woman who doesn’t have the time to drape a saree (or may not know how to!). The saree has a plain bottom with gold embroidery on the top and the waist. The pallu of the saree is pleated and stitched to the sleeve. I added a sparkly diamond choker for jewellery.
Hope you enjoyed these looks and now go ahead and dress your best this festive season!
