Navratri is one of my favourite festivals! The whole dance and music galore is so much fun. It is one of the only festivals in India where people come out in large numbers and dance their hearts away. The music, dance, food, colourful attire and happy faces make the atmosphere infectious with energy. So, one of the most important factors while going out for garba and dandiya nights is the outfit! There are so many options and different ways in which you can dress yourself, that it can be confusing. Here are some tips to get your navratri look on point.

Choose bright colours
Colourful fashion is the pride of India. While not all of us may be able to wear beautiful colourful outfits everyday, festive occasions like navratri are perfect for flaunting your colours. Choose from bright, happy shades like pink, orange, red and yellow.

Work Work Work
Love the heavy work on clothes but don’t know where to wear those? Navratri is your pick! Be it embroidery or mirror work, get your skirts, lehengas and even kurtis with work out of the closet.

Add accessories
The best way to make any outfit festival appropriate is to add accessories. We Indians are really proud of our huge heritage of jewellery. There is a huge variety of accessories which you can add to your outfit to make it stand out. Oxidised jewellery is a huge hit along with the colourful navratri outfits. If you do not like adding too many accessories, just add oversized earrings and you are good to go!

Print it
If you are someone who wants to do something different with your look, go for quirky and fun prints. Festivals are, afterall, a great opportunity to experiment with fashion to your heart’s content!

Mix and match
You can even mix traditional items with your western clothes for fusion fashion. Try adding a jacket over your tee and jeans. You can also wear your basic black kurti with leggings and drape a colourful dupatta. Or try something unique by wearing a choli as a crop top with high waisted jeans.

A few tips:

Tie your hair up in a braided bun. You want to be cool and comfortable while dancing.

Go for flat footwear. The juttis are really popular to wear along with festive outfits for navratri.

Try to avoid tight fitting clothes as they may feel suffocating.




My outfit:

I love wearing bright & vibrant colours, especially during the festival days. I chose a beautiful pink and yellow ghagra with intricate mirror work on it. For a nice modern twist, I chose a gold crop top. I styled a bright pink dupatta with colourful work around my neck. I skipped heavy jewellery and chose oversized, oxidised earrings to make a statement. And to complete the look, I added a cuffed bracelet to match my earrings.
